Boulder Opal

Boulder opal is an extremely sensitive material and must be worked very slowly with fine grit tools. This piece was one of the first times handling this material. Due to the dark backing provided by the ironstone, boulder opals generally have a dark body tone which leads to a vibrancy of color similar to that found in black opals.

Bird Skulls

I've always been fascinated with bird's and bird skulls for their striking appearance. Many of my pieces feature them or draw inspiration from them in some way.

Ear Weights

These are some of the few ear weights I've done in my carrier. I normally do these in stronger materials such as rose quartz so these opal pieces were a test in patience. The client provided me with the material for this particular pair at 5/8''.

Ebony Bird Skull

This piece was hand carved from one piece of gabon ebony and features a small labradorite stone inlay in the forehead. There is a length of brass wire that loops around the skull to the bottom where it attached to a brass rivet. A chain can be passed through this loop to wear the piece as a pendant.

Wax Carving

Many of my current pieces involve wax carvings. Every piece is hand carved in jewelers wax and then sent to H&L Casting in Toronto to be cast in ether brass or sterling silver.

Frame

I've always been inspired by antique picture and mirror frames. This 2'' pair is made to look like a Victorian mirror but with a labradorite stone inlay behind the metal. Everything is hardware set in place, no glues or adhesives are used.

Vanitas

A Vanitas is a symbolic work of art showing the transience of life, the futility of pleasure, and the certainty of death, often contrasting symbols of wealth and symbols of ephemerality and death. I'd like to think many of me pieces encapsulate this in that they look both lavish and morbid.
